Tolsia FFA students raise cows for school lunch meat [Video]

WAYNE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Order up at Tolsia High School.

Cheeseburgers are on the menu, which are a regular school lunch staple.

The cheeseburgers being served are anything but regular, as they came from the school’s backyard.

“Fort Gay, Tolsia, Crum and Dunlow are all serving hamburger patties,” said Wade Cyrus, the agriculture teacher at Tolsia.

He’s been teaching his students how to raise cows, to then send them to be processed to feed Wayne County Schools.

“The students are with them daily,” said Cyrus. “Feeding, watering, we do vaccinations, anything the cattle need on a day to day basis the students do it all.”

It’s a part of their agriculture class curriculum, and students put in work every day.

“At minimum two or three hours a day probably,” said agriculture student Dalton Davis.
