Meals on Wheels looking for support ahead of vote for funding [Video]

Meals on Wheels West Michigan does more than just provide meals, 27% of seniors who use the program said the only person they see during the week is their driver.

GRANDVILLE, Mich. — Monday morning, Meals on Wheels West Michigan (MOWWM) hosted its Community Champions Press Event in Grandville. Local government officials were in attendance as well to recognize the work MOWWM does.

MOWWM said the event was meant to serve as a call to action for #SaveLunch, a nationwide campaign led by Meals on Wheels America (MOWA). #SaveLunch was designed to help rally communities around their senior neighbors and protect the services MOWA provides.

Those services are about more than just providing a meal, said MOWWM President and CEO Lisa Wideman.

“About 27% of the seniors that we serve home delivered meals to don’t see anybody during the week other than their driver,” Wideman said. “That is so, so important to have those meals delivered by an individual person.”
