Georgia Congressman Rich McCormick suggested kids should be working at McDonald’s rather than getting free school lunches as lawmakers on Tuesday reacted to President Trump’s latest spending freeze attempt.
The Republican lawmaker was being interviewed on CNN when he was asked if he would support getting rid of school lunches for his constituents.
The question came as the pair were discussing the White House pause on federal grants, loans and other financial assistance pending review and how the move would impact Americans amid widespread confusion.
The freeze was set to go into effect on Tuesday evening but was temporarily blocked by a judge minutes before.
During the interview earlier in the day, McCormick praised doing a ‘top-down’ review of government spending.
That’s when anchor Pamela Brown brought up the free and reduced lunch program for students as well as the Head Start program for early childhood education.
