OAKLAND--A furniture artist in Oakland is making quite a name for herself both in the community and on social media. Kacha Hernandez uses her skills to fix up worn out bureaus, vanities and other pieces that need a little T.L.C. Our station recently paid her a visit.
Kacha Hernandez of Serbia and her husband Carlos of Cuba moved to Maine six years ago. Now the couple co-owns Kacha Furniture on Church Street in Oakland.
“Ever since I started painting I always dreamed of having my own shop, displaying my own furniture, and having a studio so I don’t have to work from home,” explained Kacha.
Kacha creates custom-made pieces from techniques she’s tried again and again.
“I pretty much taught myself everything by playing and not having a fear that I‘m going to fail,” she said.
