The city of Dubai has come to a grinding halt after torrential rains that saw the region get its entire year’s rainfall quota in just 24 hours. 

Schools have been shut, and employees have been directed to work from home after underground car parks were flooded. The metro services were also disrupted after a two-day downpour. Dubai International Airport, one of the busiest in the world, is facing significant disruptions, with flights either diverted or delayed for several hours. 

The damage is not limited to the city alone. Roads in the capital city of Abu Dhabi were also flooded, while a 70-year-old man lost his life when his vehicle was caught in the flash floods in Ras Al Khaimah.
