BETHANY, CT (WFSB) – Several dozen parents were without childcare in Bethany after the town announced that its before and after school program was on hold with no return date.
With busy schedules, Mary and Chuck York’s two sons usually spent their mornings and afternoons at the after-school program that was run by Bethany Parks and Recreation.
After receiving the cancelation news on Saturday, they were one of 40 families without childcare.
Mary York was able to work from home on Monday, but she said that was not sustainable long term.
The parks and recreation department employed Anthony Mastrangelo, the man charged with sexually abusing children while working in the programs.
“We’ve had to have uncomfortable situations with our children, to find out if any of them were involved in that whole thing. Now, we need to have uncomfortable conversations about why their whole routine is upside down,” Mary York said.
