Spartanburg County students headed back to school on Monday. At Clifdale Middle in Spartanburg District 3, one of the teachers said she had prepped all summer for the start of the year. “We often reflect on what we did last year, what worked well, what didn’t work well,” Melissa Greenlee said. ” plan to continue things, try new things, and just get our rooms ready and be ready to go.”The staff said there are new programs to look forward to as well. “I’m most excited about our new PBIS initiative, where we’ve set up some houses for our kids, and it’s just a way to get them engaged in class and happy and excited to come to school each day,” teacher Ashley Beasley said.Clifdale Middle plans to release more information about this initiative soon. The school is continuing its partnership with the Spartanburg Academic Movement to set its students up for success. It is also adding a new after-school outreach program for girls, similar to its current My Brother’s Keeper program for young boys. Clifdale Middle is handing out new laptops this year as well. Most Spartanburg school districts, District One, Three, Four, Six and Seven, are continuing to offer free breakfast and lunches through the Community Eligibility Program.
