One family nurse practitioner says the work-life balance and ability to work in different specialties are aspects that draw people into the field.
MAINE, USA — According to U.S. News & World Report, nurse practitioner is the No. 1 ranked job for 2025. The study says that’s because of work-life balance, high pay, and job growth potential.
Despite this, communities in Maine are lacking enough nurse practitioners to support patients.
While there’s still a shortage of them in Maine, nurse practitioners provide a valuable resource.
“Family nurse practitioners are able to work with that underserved population and fill that gap in the rural settings,” Towne said.
For Towne who was raised in Dover-Foxcroft and is now family nurse practitioner in the same town, filling that gap is about giving back to her community.
“To make change in those ways I think is very attractive,” Towne said.
