CONCORD, N.C. (QC Life) – We hopped on a new TikTok trend and invited Janice Myles, owner of JM Party Cakes Bakery, to make a burn cake with us.
Concord-based JM Party Cakes has been operating for 20 years, offering custom gluten-free and egg-free cakes, cupcakes and Jamaican desserts. Myles said it started off as a side hustle before she decided to turn her passion into a business.
Myles walked us through crafting the burn cake layers:
- You put two different images on a cake iced with buttercream – one at the bottom and one at the top
- The one at the bottom is edible, and the one at the top is a wafer paper image
- Stick the edible image on the cake and top it with two layers of buttercream border
- Put the wafer paper image on top of the cake and add another layer of buttercream border
- Burn the wafer paper image to reveal the first picture
