Kentucky lawmakers pass bill expanding eligibility for child care subsidies to foster parents working remotely | Politics [Video]

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Kentucky lawmakers are giving more financial help to foster parents who work from home.

Senate Bill 240 passed the General Assembly with bipartisan support, codifying the state’s Cabinet for Health and Family Services’ program providing child care subsidies to foster families, according to a news release.

It also expands the eligibility for those child care subsidies to parents who work remotely.

Up until now, foster parents were ineligible if they didn’t meet a minimum number of hours they worked “outside the home.”

Sen. Cassie Chambers Armstrong, D-Louisville, sponsored the legislation.

“This bill will decrease barriers to families who wish to participate in foster care,” Armstrong said in a statement. “We desperately need more foster families in Kentucky, and this legislation can help us achieve that goal. Kentuckians who want to provide a loving home to a child in foster care should be able to do so.”
