SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – The Roderick Ireland Courthouse now has water restored following a major water main break on State Street Wednesday morning.
That break causing heavy traffic delays in the area.
Springfield Water and Sewer Commission say they are still unsure what caused the water main break.
Springfield Courts were closed on Wednesday due to and will now resume on Thursday.
Staff were able to work from home and get some work done but many proceedings will need to be rescheduled.
For anyone headed into downtown, it’s important to note the detours impacting the area including:
- One northbound lane is now open on East Columbus Avenue from Union Street to the I-91 north on-ramp
- State Street from East Columbus Avenue to MGM Way (MGM Springfield’s State Street entrance) to East Columbus Avenue is closed
- State Street from MGM Way (MGM Springfield’s State Street entrance) to Main Street is open
- I-91 north on-ramp is currently open and is not impacted
