Broken Arrow teacher’s quick action saves choking student at lunch time | News [Video]

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Matthew Wagner, a 6th grader at Broken Arrow Public Schools, said he recently had a scary experience at lunch time. 

“I took one or two bites of my chicken sandwich and bam, I couldn’t breathe,” Wagner said. 

Wagner said he immediately signaled his classmates when he began choking, and a teacher quickly came over to help. But she was having a hard time getting a grip and getting the Heimlich maneuver to work. 

“it definitely felt like a long time,” Wagner said. “It felt like 30 minutes to me when it was only one, two minutes.”

Wagner said only one thing was going through his mind. 

“I am going to die, I am going to die right now,” he said.

That’s when Jeffery Adams, another teacher, was called over to help. 

“He was already pretty blue,” Adams said.
