A Missouri woman accused of killing an Arkansas woman and her unborn child in 2022 pleaded guilty to two federal charges Tuesday afternoon. Amber Waterman pleaded guilty to two charges:1) Kidnapping resulting in death2) Kidnapping resulting in death, also resulting in the death of an unborn childA sentencing hearing was scheduled for Oct. 15, 2024. She could face life in prison without parole, the prosecutor said.Prosecutors say Waterman lured Ashley Bush, 33, of Benton County, into her car in Maysville in Oct. 2022.Bush thought she was going to a job interview in Bentonville.Instead, Waterman shot Bush and then removed her unborn child, police say. She tried to burn Bush’s body on her property in McDonald County, Missouri. The Department of Justice says Waterman had planned to claim Bush’s baby as her own.Bush’s parents were in court Tuesday morning, as was Waterman herself.Waterman’s attorneys declined to speak with 40/29 News. Arkansas ChargesWaterman also faces capital murder charges in the Arkansas court system. Earlier this month, Benton County prosecuting attorney Joshua Robinson told 40/29 News the federal plea could complicate the case in Arkansas. He said Bush’s family wants Waterman to face the death penalty.”We, you know, let the U.S. attorney’s office know pretty quickly, ‘If you all get the approval to seek death row, we’ll back off. We’ll dismiss our case as long as somebody can do what the family wants.’ We never believed that the United States Attorney General would approve that. He is outwardly opposed to the death penalty, and I understand that. We just kind of had what we thought was a realistic viewpoint of how that would play out, and that’s how it played out,” Robinson said. The federal prosecutor said after Tuesday’s hearing that Arkansas would likely decide what to do with their charges after the federal sentencing is complete.
