YUMA, AZ (AZFamily) — Amid their daily routine, a group of fieldworkers in Yuma received a surprise that turned their ordinary day into a heartfelt celebration and appreciation.
Thanks to the Labor of Love, a Yuma-based organization, a special luncheon was organized to honor the workers’ hard work and dedication during the busy harvest season.
The workers were surprised with a warm, delicious lunch. Volunteers gave lunch bags filled with burritos and tacos to the crew of around 40 workers, offering them a chance to rest and enjoy a meal together.
Amy Karvoski, who helps organize events with the group, said the initiative began seven years ago through the Yuma Fresh Vegetable Association.
The program’s mission is simple: to show gratitude to the workers who help feed America.
Yuma produces 90% of the nation’s leafy greens and vegetables during winter, and Karvoski said this is possible because of these workers.
