Atlanta teachers surprised with school supplies for their students [Video]

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Every year, Georgia teachers dig into their own wallets to help buy school supplies for students.

Benteen is a Title I school. Students are offered free breakfast and lunch and many of the parents struggle financially. Teachers step in to fill the gaps.

“We have the best teachers. I know every Principal probably thinks that but we have the right people in the building to make things happen for kids this year,” said Lovett. “They care. This is hard work. They love what they do.”

Studies show the average teacher will spend between $500 and $750 of their own money on things their students need. Georgia’s Own Credit Union is making sure these educators have fewer things to worry about as the school year begins.
