TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – The Better Business Bureau is warning of a new twist on employment scams. According to reports on BBB’s Scam Tracker tool, it comes in various forms.
It works like this
The victim will be “hired” on by a well-known company to do minimal remote work for high pay. The catch is that employees will work, but won’t get paid.
In fact, many victims say they were told to invest some of their own money before they can access their pay. That’s because they say employees are paid with cryptocurrency. In reality, the money behind that currency is fake.
Some victims report losing over $10,000 to this method.
How to avoid job scams
Research and contact the company. If someone says they are from that company, call the actual business and ask if someone by that name works there.
