Tips on what to lookout for to avoid job-hunting scams [Video]

(WHTM) — With jobs getting harder to find in 2024 and fully remote jobs even tougher it will be easier than ever in the next few months to fall for a job-hunting scam.

“After almost 10 years I was laid off from my remote position,” Deb Kovacs Sturtevant said. She suddenly found herself in need of new work. So she jumped on LinkedIn and some other job-hunting sites and found a perfect position.

“I applied for a job for a business operations manager,” she said. “They are a legitimate company, they have a whole website, I check out the CEO’s name, the whole 9 yards.”

And best of all, she could job search from home. However her first assignment confused her – it was to cash a check. “He said an associate of his would be sending me a check for $2,400,” she said.

The company’s name was legit but …
