As a digital nomad, I have the freedom to work and travel wherever I want, but I have to say that my experience in Mexico was not as positive as I digital nomad expected. It’s true that the country has a lot of diversity and beautiful places, but the reality is that it’s also a place where travelers can face many dangers.Digital nomad. When I first arrived in Mexico, I was excited to explore the country and work remotely. I packed up my laptop and headed to Puerto Vallarta. I found a cozy little café with fast internet and set up shop, but little did I know that my laptop and all my work would be stolen while I was ordering my coffee. From that moment, my experience in Mexico changed completely.I decided to try my luck in another city and went to San Miguel de Allende, but it was not much different. I found a great co-working space and spent a month there, but I realized that the crime rate is high and I had to be extra careful walking around at night. I also heard many stories from other travelers that had been robbed or scammed.Another spot that I thought would be great for freelancing was Guadalajara, but it was also a disappointment. The city has a thriving startup scene, but the lack of security is a big concern. I found a great apartment on Airbnb, but it was broken into and all my valuables were stolen. The worst part of freelancing in Mexico is the sense of insecurity. There are many dangers in this country, and it’s easy to fall victim to crime. The cost of living may be affordable, but it’s not worth it if you have to constantly worry about your safety.Overall, my experience freelancing in Mexico was not what I expected. The beautiful places and culture are overshadowed by the high crime rate and lack of security. I would not recommend Mexico as a destination for digital nomads. Instead, it’s better to look for safer places to travel and work.
