‘Quaint’ but ‘boring’ city crowned best place in UK to get job [Video]

Struggling to find a job or simply looking to improve your work/life balance? You may want to head to Hampshire.

Although London is the UK’s economic hub, new research claims that Winchester is the best place for job opportunities and pay in relation to the cost of living.

HR software provider Ciphr compared employment data for 100 of the UK’s most populated towns and cities, rating each according to factors like average full-time earnings, recent wage growth, unemployment figures, and the number of job listings on Indeed, LinkedIn and Glassdoor (combined) per local worker.

Housing costs, as well as life satisfaction and happiness scores, were also considered to reflect the town or city’s affordability and its residents’ general level of wellbeing.

Winchester came out as a clear winner, gaining an especially high rating for its higher-than-average salaries (£40,600 a year – 16% above the UK’s median average full-time pay of £34,963), low unemployment rates (2.7%), and density of …
