Anthony Albanese has delivered a brutal comeback to a Greens MP who made another dig about his property portfolio. 

Max Chandler-Mather, the MP for the Queensland seat of Griffith, took the prime minister to task at Question Time on Monday over the party’s refusal to consider reforms to negative gearing, which effectively gives tax breaks to landlords, and capital gains tax. 

Addressing the prime minister directly, Mr Chandler-Mather said: ‘Why is Labor refusing to phase out the big tax handouts for property investors including the capital gains tax discount and negative gearing that benefit wealthy property investors like yourself and the 75 per cent of Labor politicians who own an investment property?’

But Mr Albanese shot back, suggesting the the Greens’ housing spokesperson should look closer to home.
