Amherst County Sheriff’s deputy Beth Tolbert and her husband Scott are receiving much support from the community after their home is a total loss following a blaze that broke out in the kitchen on Dec. 12.
Beth Tolbert, who works security at the Amherst County courthouse, said she went to her home on Campbells Mill Road for lunch that day and the fire started on the kitchen stove. She went out to check on the animals and went back inside to see the fire erupt and immediately contacted 911, she said.
The Amherst Fire Department was on site within a few minutes to battle the blaze, an impressive response time, she said.
“It’s a total loss,” Scott Tolbert said of the damage. “Thank God it’s standing so we can go through it.”
The couple said they have been blessed by the tremendous outpouring of support they have received.
