Personal tragedy inspires her to help others [Video]

PARKSTON, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Corrinna Wagner went through a parent’s worst nightmare.

“Back in 1999, my son was killed in a car accident. He was seven years old,” said Corrinna.

The memories of that tragic day are still fresh.

“It was about a mile, mile and a half from our house. I walked probably 25 and noticed it was our pickup. And the Highway Patrol man at the time told me that son my son was killed,” said Corrinna.

Despite the sadness, what happened also inspired Corrinna to make a career change.

“I was so moved by our Highway Patrol, our Parkston Fire and Mitchell Ambulance and Tripp Ambulance, I wanted to give back to our community for what they did in our time of need,” said Corrinna.

She’s now an EMT for the Parkston Rural Ambulance and the Police Chief of Tripp.
